thanks for sharing this. it was very thoughtful and thought-provoking, as a person and as your friend. we should really catch up soon. i'm going to be in portland over the weekend and will try to give you a ring. i've been the busiest i've ever been...in a good way...but the tradeoff has been a pretty severe disconnect from much of the world. time to rebalance, i think, and rethink. it's tough not to put people (everything really) into convenient bucks in our minds, particularly when we're rushing about. only when we're still can we really empty the buckets, or at least try, in my opinion. and i think that's what this post does, Robi, and what good posts--good writing, movies, marketing--do...they put people in the moment by connecting in real, honest, human ways.

I particularly enjoyed your thoughts about people changing themselves; from just one day to the next.

The idea of keeping up with change is extremely applicable in my job. I can go over every tiny variable going on with a candidate's job search on Tuesday, and come Thursday, everything has changed. It’s important to check in daily, and ask "What's changed since we last spoke?"

Of course in our personal lives we don't want to accost our friends with the ‘what’s changed?’ question every time we see them, but it is helpful to remember life keeps moving forward for everyone.

I found this link tonight as I was procrastinating on an essay and deleting old bookmarks. I won't delete this one, of course. I like how you describe yourself. I am impressed by you. It's difficult to describe your own self eloquently but you did it. See you soon.

Thanks for the comments folks! Very flattered :) I'll try to make sure I put in some more posts that live up to these standards :)
